About

My name is Kathleen Krueger, and I’ve been living/working at Cal Poly State University SLO for about as long as I’ve been on the computer, which is about forever.  My second degree is the Biological Sciences, from Cal Poly, my history includes pets of all kinds, and particpating in Wildlife Rehabiliation for awhile.  The Cat Program is run by co-workers, and my newest pets, two cats, were from this shelter.  I help the Cat Program in small ways, as best I can actually, and greatly admire the dedication of the staff and volunteers. This blog is my labor of love for the effort.  I encourage all to find a favorite animal shelter, and do what you can.   A little goes a very long way.

Below is an except from an informative “The Mews Times” pdf file published awhile ago, however, is very informative.  Please see the history and the faces of the folks behind the scenes HERE.

“The genesis of the Cal Poly Cat Program (CPCP) began in 1991 when Garret Quindimil’s senior project addressed the increased cat population on campus. At that time there were over 400 cats and kittens roaming campus, the majority abandoned by students and residents. The Department of Animal Regulations began euthanization lowering the numbers but not ultimately solving the problem.
The Cat Program was born modeling their solution on “Test, Trap, Vaccinate, Medicate, Alter, and Release”
(TTVMAR) technique, developed by the National Feral Cat Resource Center.
A second senior project developed into students domesticating feral (wild) cats and finding good homes
for them. Students, staff, and community friends help run the program and volunteer time to care for the
animals.

The Cal Poly Feral Cat Program, a non-profit program,  was formed to give cats happier, healthier lives. The program controls a healthy population of campus cats, find adoptive homes for
them, and educates cat owners on p r o p e r c a r e . Proper care includes responsibility,
sterilization,and training.

Donations go for annual shelter expenses and needs.”
